Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake: Paris Landing, Rockport Anchorage, Clifton, and Counce, Tennessee
October 7 through October 12, 2026
The river is truly a magical place, filled with a wonderful tapestry of sights, sounds, and stories. As we travel by boat, we find ourselves imagining what life must be like for those who live, work, and play along its banks. We let our minds wander and our hearts dream, wondering about the lives unfolding just beyond the water’s edge. Every now and then, we’re fortunate enough to step ashore and catch a small glimpse of life on land, but those moments are often fleeting. What makes them truly special is when we meet a local resident who welcomes us into their world and generously shares a piece of their story. These personal connections are among the greatest gifts of our travels, reminding us that behind every shoreline are people, experiences, and stories that make this magical river come alive.
Kentucky Lake is vast and beautiful. This is either an elaborate duck blind or a home that sadly misjudged the flood line. These trees may have also misjudged the flood line?Paris Landing was a quieter stop along this leg of the journey. But Rockport Anchorage was the epitome of quiet…except for several minutes of the coyote serenade.Summer camps on the river are eclectic…….and permanent canopies provide shade and extend the outdoor living space. At Clifton Harbor, we were conveniently located 40 feet from the restaurant. It was a lively place thanks to many of the local residents who frequent the place. And the food was pretty good, too.We were entertained with live music all three days of our stay. There was a pop duo on Friday……and some good ole fashioned honky tonk music on Saturday.Fun was had by all!!The statue in the local park was dedicated to local Vietnam war hero who was born in this park and died in the line of duty. These homes on the riverbank is reminiscent of Portuguese-style architecture with their red clay rooftops. As we approached Grand Harbor in Counce, we were passed by this paddlewheel boat. It’s just another interesting sight on the river.
